ABOUT TAI CHI & BAGUA OF NORTHEAST COLORADO

A Lifetime of Learning, Training & Teaching

Tai Chi & Bagua of Northeast Colorado grew from a lifelong journey through martial arts, teaching, learning, and personal development.

After more than four decades of martial arts training and more than a decade of teaching, I created this school to share what I've learned and continue learning alongside the people I teach.

Meet Your Instructor

My name is Troy Hodges, and martial arts have been part of my life since I was 12 years old.

I started training in Tae Kwon Do in 1980. Over the years, my training expanded into a variety of martial arts, including Arnis, Mi Tsung Chuan, Kali, Jeet Kune Do, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Real Contact Stick Fighting.

In 2002, I returned to training with a deeper focus on Tai Chi, Bagua, and Hsing-I.

I began teaching private students in 2011 and officially established Tai Chi & Bagua of Northeast Colorado LLC in 2024.

Every Art Has Taught Me Something

Training in different martial arts has given me the opportunity to experience different approaches to movement, timing, balance, awareness, discipline, and personal development. Each art has contributed something different to my understanding of martial arts. I don't believe that learning ever really ends. Even after decades of training, there is always something more to understand, practice, and refine

Reliable. Authentic. Engaging.

RELIABLE.

Do what I say and show up when I say I will show up.

Consistency matters. Students should know they can count on their instructor and their training environment..

AUTHENTIC.

Be who I am.

My own training has included successes, struggles, mistakes, and lessons learned. I believe being honest about the journey is part of being a good teacher.

ENGAGING.

Meet students where they are.

Students have different interests and goals. Training can explore martial arts, meditation, mental focus, emotional grounding, movement, and other aspects of the arts.

Why I Continue to Teach?

I've spent much of my life training and learning martial arts. Teaching gives me an opportunity to share what I've learned while continuing to learn myself.

My goal isn't simply to teach someone a series of movements.

I want students to have the opportunity to explore the arts, ask questions, challenge themselves, and discover what the practice means to them.

Sometimes that may be martial skill. Sometimes it may be meditation, focus, movement, or simply taking an hour to slow down and practice.

Everyone comes to training for a different reason, and that's part of what makes teaching rewarding.

You Don't Have to Know Everything Before You Begin

"I've been training for most of my life, and I still consider myself a student.

My hope is that the people who train with me find something valuable in the practice whether that's a new skill, a different way of moving, a moment of focus, or simply the opportunity to keep learning.

You don't have to know where the journey will take you. You just have to be willing to take the first step."
